In response to the increase in incidents caused by false declarations of the containers’ weight, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted an amendment to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) in 2014, in order to provide answers to this problem. This amendment came into effect on 1 July 2016.
The new regulations oblige shippers to declare the weight of their containers using two methods:
- Weighing the container using a calibrated and certified measuring instrument,
- Reconstituting the weight of the container by adding the masses (method used by the majority of transport operators)
Facilitator: the single slip
In order for our customers to be able to declare the shipping, SICSOE has adapted, since June 28th 2016, its shipping slip containing all necessary information: Container number / Seal number / Container tare / Goods Gross weight / Pallets.
